Marketing to the Masses

If you were to create a self-cleaning textile, the world may want to beat a path to your door to acquire some from you, but first of all they will have to know that the textile exists, that it is available for purchase, and they have to know where your door is. This requires advertising.

There are two classifications of advertising: institutional and product. Institutional advertising markets the name of your company in general and product advertising promotes a product or range of products or services. The type of advertising that a company requires, depends on the products or services that it provides.

Moreover, some types of advertising lend themselves better to institutional advertising rather than product advertising. For example, a shop sign, a sign-written van or a promotional calendar are better suited to institutional advertising, while a newspaper or magazine advert would be better for advertising the latest special offer.

There are few facts and figures available that bring to light the extraordinary growth of the mass consumption society as well as those dealing with the expansion of the advertising industry. For example, prior to the Second World War, US average annual expenditure on advertising per year had been about $2 billion for decades.

In 1950, as the post-war economy started to recover, American businesses spent $5.7 billion to advertise its goods and services. By 1960, that amount had doubled to $12 billion. By 1970, American business was spending $20.

Between 1970 and 1990, as the children Baby Boomers became adults and started earning and spending, advertising expenditure went through the roof, so that by 1986, it had reached $100 billion.

That extraordinary rate of increase could not be maintained, but by 1999, total expenditure on all kinds of advertising exceeded $215 billion. The latest available figures are for 2007 and they stand at $280 billion.

In 1999, nearly 60% of all advertising dollars were spent on adverts in newspapers, magazines, on the radio and on TV. By 2007, that figure had fallen to about 54% as the Internet started to have an impact on advertising trends. These trends are expected to continue as every firm is expected to have its own website these days.

The nation's largest advertisers are the manufacturers of cars, food, soft drinks, tobacco and beer and they filter most of their expenditure through about 13,000 advertising agencies., who usually make the ads and buy the space or air time from the media too.

These agencies have been transformed over the last decade by mergers. The most lucrative advertising agencies these days are huge international concerns. WPP, the largest advertising agency in the world, billed $37 billion in 2008 and had this to say about itself:

"Our total revenue in 2008 surpassed that of all our competitors, regaining the No.1 worldwide position for the third time".

There are many factors affecting the impact of Business classified:

Promotion of product and services: A business classified ad is for the promotion of a specific product or services. It is actually the power to pull the visitor in a customized manner. A normal visitor will not waste precious time to look after the ads. Only specific visitors will search through particular classified section for desired results.

Ad-Designing: The classified should leave a long-lasting mark on the visitor. A visitor should visit the ad and get attracted towards it immediately. Classified should be designed as per rules, but in a different manner so that it attracts maximum number of visitors visiting that section.

Recognition is also important: Draft a small logo and make it prominent. If the ad is about the sale or for promotion of product; they should leave an ever-lasting impact. When a Company wants to promote a product for the first time, then the ad should state specific purpose - for which it is placed. This way they gain more visitors and fruitful enquiries.

Cheap and best: There are various classified ad sites which are available online. These sites are ready to submit the ad for free. Other sites also submit the ads at a nominal cost available for a specific period of time or as a package.

Keep updating: Advertisers tend to place classified ads on the relevant sites and then forget about it, completely. The aim should be to refurbish the ad from time to time so that visitor clicks on ad again and again for better response.

Specific purpose: Free classifieds for business are highly-specific to promote the product or services for the specific visitors. There is a difference between an ad and a specific ad is that both are drafted to attract visitors but only the latter can get specialized visitors with better conversion rate.

Evaluating Different Methods of Advertisements

Advertising in today's economy is just as important as it has ever been before. The reason is simple; people are watching where they are spending their money. In addition, the methods of how to advertise have changed over the past decade. Large companies are now pushing more for advertising online and people are increasing their shopping and browsing online. We now have three main methods to advertise. We have online advertisement, television advertisement and brick and mortar advertisement. These can all be effective but some cost significantly more than others and may not yield the desired results for the money invested. So, what is the best way to advertise, you need to review what methods you think will work for your business

Television advertisement is the most expensive and can yield the quickest benefit depending on which slot you pick to advertise on. In other words, you will most likely benefit more to advertise during the 5:30-9:00 time slot if you happen to be a car dealership. The reason being is several people work during the day and you want people that are working to see your advertisement. Therefore, you will end up paying more for this type of advertisement. So make sure you reap the most benefit you need to look at your business and decide if when would be best for you spend money on this type of advertisement. You also should keep in mind if you should use this type of advertisement during one particular time of the year.

Brick and mortar advertisement is something similar to a shotgun blast and can be very effective for a decent price. However, you lack the ability to enforce branding as much with this type of advertising that you often can accomplish with advertising on the TV. The brick and mortar method consists of using advertisements in the local paper, billboards and even on the radio. These can be effective if people running your campaign can provide statistics on the genre of the group that responds to ads from each source. As an example if you selling products that cost thousands of dollars you would not want your advertisement playing on a radio station that predominately targets a younger audience that may not be able to afford your product or services.

Online advertising can be the cheapest but also the most difficult to achieve because you have to rely on people to go to your website or find your advertisements. Large companies are getting better at online advertisements by using search engines to advertise for them while including website address with their TV commercials. Larger companies are training people to regularly visit their website by offering specials online.

I discussed three different methods to use advertise. You can advertise on TV, brick and mortar advertising which includes radio, billboards and newspaper advertisements or you can advertise online. The way to select any of these groups is to know the age, gender and potential income of your audience in addition to seasonal adjustments in their buying patterns.

You Can Find the Perfect Promotional Products to Help Make Your Business a Success

Shopping for promotional products can be lots of fun. As you browse through online sites and catalogs you will be amazed at the variety of products available. From beautiful luxury items to simple pencils and pens, the sky is the limit when it comes to promotional products. Your choice of where to buy can be just as extensive. You can shop at a local advertising specialty company or you can go online. A simple Internet search will show you just how diverse the selection is.

So how in the world do you weed through the vast selection of promotional products that are available? A good first place to start is with how much you want to spend. Promotional products are often categorized according to price per item. The individual cost of items will generally go down as you order more. In other words, the more you order the cheaper they will be. You can also think about how you will be using the promotional products. If you will be handing them out at a convention or trade show you will need something that stands out from the crowd.

Your goals for the products will help you decide what direction to go. If you are simply trying to raise the visibility of your company in the market place then almost anything will fill the bill. Of course you will want to make sure that whatever promotional products you select are compatible with the image you want to portray and the message you want to give. You should also consider the type of person that will be receiving the gift. Depending on the purpose for buying the promotional products, you may want to try to select something that they will keep and use rather than passing it along to a family member.

Most people find buying online to be the most convenient way to shop for promotional products. Since the market is so competitive, you will likely find many providers who can ship very quickly. The best providers offer competitive shipping rates and you will find a number of special discounts offered. Many offer to set up your artwork or design a custom item for you. This you can save a considerable amount on the cost of the products.

Regardless of what the products you decide to purchase, be sure to take stock of how well your promotion works. This will help guide you in what types of products to buy in the future. How much analysis of your effort you need to do will depend on just exactly what your purpose is. If, for example, you are buying pens to leave on the counter for customers to take with them, you will get a good feel for how well received they are from the customer's reaction. If you are mailing an item to people you don't see often then you'll need to do a little research. Just keep your purpose and your audience in mind and your promotional products campaign will be a success.

How to Choose the Right Sign For Your Business

Sign of the times

Choosing a sign for most business owners is a very important and personal decision. Often the image that is conveyed by the signage brings a sense of pride and accomplishment that has stemmed from many hours of thought process around the structure and purpose of the business.

Early signs on buildings were quite simple, but elegant. Imagine a western town with the 'BAR' sign on the awning. There was not too much choice of materials, so maybe it was a simple wooden sign, but probably with some detailed hand painted text. Now transport yourself to a New York skyline and envision the electric neon glow of a major corporate brand. Both examples result in a clear message and a status symbol for the business.

Choices, Choices, Choices

With the advent of modern technology there are many variations of materials and products that can achieve different results for many different sign applications. Here are a few basic materials and applications.

Vinyl stickers - used on most substrates and directly to vehicles, boards, boats, windows, buildings,

Paint - becoming less common but very useful for textured surfaces, or a classic look sign

Digital Prints - full colour graphics printed on a variety of materials including vinyl

Illuminated - exposed or hidden variations with Flourescent and LED

Digital Signs - Basic LCD or plasma screens using digital software

In future articles we will go into the separate details of some of these options.

IMAGE

A lot of the decisions that are made around signs will come back to image. You might have a logo, or some corporate colours, or a tag line. Your business might be security, retail shop, mechanic or a day spa. The combination of the image and the business type will require a balance.

For instance: A mechanic might have an image that is promoting truck repairs. They decide to incorporate a full colour graphic of a fancy truck and lots of background colours. The premises is located on a street that has some competing mechanics nearby. What is the best arrangement of signs. To keep the image they may decide to locate a large image on the top of the building so people know they specialise in trucks. Maybe for the main road sign though, they will go with some simple bold text or arrows that easily diverts passing traffic into their driveway. Maybe they will illuminate some signage to stand out from the competition, but not too elaborate so as to look too expensive.

Some good questions to ask would be:

Does the sign need to convey a visual picture?

Does it need to be easily read from a distance?

Does the sign need to direct traffic?

Does it need to change regularly?

Does the cost of the sign outweigh the result?

Does the sign fit the business image?

Will the sign be vandalised?

Will the sign last?

Often by asking some of these simple questions, your sign choice will be the right one.

Planning an Outdoor Digital Signage Campaign

Outdoor digital signage is a great way of raising interest and generating awareness to your company, products and brand.

Although the initial outlay of an digital outdoor signage campaign can be quite steep. The potential audience size that can be reached can soon generate a return on investment. But digital outdoor signage does require some thought to ensure any campaign is successful.

Location

The most important aspect of any outdoor digital signage campaign is the location. Any signage system outdoors has the potential to attract large numbers of passers by but only if it is in the right location. Any outdoor digital signage system needs to be in high traffic areas and clearly visible. Remember also that passers by will be walking, cycling, driving and be on other modes of transport.

The weather

The weather is prime factor when considering the outdoor digital signage. Any system will have to operate in all weathers so the types of conditions it will be expected to endure should be thought about. Rainfall is an important factor as is temperature control and protecting the screen from direct sunlight.

LCD enclosures are available to ensure protection of the LCD or plasma device but make sure they have adequate climatic controls and are manufactured to IP65 or NEMA 4.

Content

As with any signage campaign, digital or otherwise, content is key. Ensure your content is lively and attractive and gets the message across that you want to express.

Ensure the content is working before any campaign is switched on. Ensure that the content can be uploaded to all necessary devices especially if it is on a network

Crash Course on Standard Poster Printing Designing

After you are done with the poster designing process, there are still some obstacles that you have to go through. Delays can be caused by having improper formats, resolution, and other seemingly trivial things. One of the ways to avoid these is having the standard poster printing requirements, and this article is going to discuss this subject matter.

In order to prevent delays and errors, always make sure that your poster designs comply with the standard poster printing requirements. Also, below are some guidelines in order to effectively comply with these.

The first thing to do is to make sure that you are using the correct file format for your print posters. Some file formats have advantages over other file formats. It is important to consider these in choosing the right format for saving your poster design.

Some printing companies have trouble with opening specific file formats so you must determine whether or not they are able to at least open your file before engaging their services. The most common file formats are JPG or JPEG, PNG, or BMP. Most printing companies should be able to open these files, but sometimes the companies want the liberty of adjusting the color mode to be able to print them properly using their printers. This is why they sometimes ask for the specific files generated by your design software.

Next, you should make sure that the resolution that you are using is high enough for quality print posters. The normal resolution is 72dpi which is what is used in normal and casual printing. Most people think that this is a good resolution, and in reality it is. But for printing purposes, it is actually a low resolution setting. The print posters will probably be pixilated as there is not enough color information for them. Since posters require a much higher resolution, you should consider saving them in at least 300dpi. This will ensure that the poster printing will process smoothly.

As previously mentioned, there are proper color modes to be considered. Ask the printing company which color mode they use to be able to comply with them. But the bottom line is, most printing companies use the CMYK (or the cyan magenta yellow key) color model so using that is a great start. Even if you already have the design completed, it is a simple matter to just convert your file to the CMYK color model. Take note that sometimes the colors will change due to the color mode difference, so be sure to make the necessary adjustments.

There you have it, the standard poster printing requirements. If your design complies with the above guidelines, you should have an easier time with your printing company.

A Nice Investment in Your Future Success

At a certain point of your business career you realise that having an exhibition stand will speed up the process of branded marketing. The only question is which model to choose. A double sided banner stand can be a nice investment in your future success. Of course, it is not that easy to make the right choice out of the variety of styles, shapes, materials and designs of banners available on the market. That is why every single factor of your business should be taken into account, every slightest peculiarity should be considered. In the intense world of business only the most careful, wise and thoughtful wins out, that is why every decision of yours, every choice is like a little brick which adds to the strength of the whole building. The same with a banner stand - if you choose the right one, it will serve its purpose; if you make a mistake, it will be nothing more than a waste of money.

A double sided banner stand is a nice option if you take part in all sorts of exhibitions, trade shows, seasonal sales and fairs, and other events like that. It goes without saying that you need an original, bright, cheerful and professional approach to make you company attention grabbing among dozens, if not hundreds competitors. A nice banner stand will surely enhance the brand image of your company and popularise your business. A great variant is a retractable stand with double sided display - the visitors will be able to approach it from both sides, which means your advertisement will work twice more effective. In fact it will guarantee almost 360-degree visibility.

So, if you have enough space at a trade show or another event of that sort, opt for a double sided banner stand without hesitation. But the problem is that most of these shows and fairs are incredibly crowded, as everybody wants to represent their production, therefore the area given for every company is quite limited. And very often you get a space near the wall, having an opportunity to display only one side of your stand. Even in this case a double sided banner is effective: in the course of the event you can turn the banner, displaying the graphics from another side. It will bring a considerable refreshment into your promotional campaign. As for the construction of a double sided banner stand, it is simple and easy to use: two banners are placed back to back and supported by a single pole between them.

Also, this kind of stand does extremely well in airports, shopping centres, hotel lobbies, and other places with a large number of people. If your logo is eye-catching, original and interesting, it will be definitely noticed with the help of a double sided stand. It can be even used outside: a new generation of banners are weather resistant, with quality laminated graphics. The only obstacle might be a strong wind.

In any case you will be able to expand the horizons of your business expectations when you see a real result of the effectiveness of a double sided banner stand.

Visit TSNN.co.uk to place a quick quote for Double Sided Banner Stand for conference, meeting and other events from display boards suppliers.
